A delay in the launch of Nvidia's new artificial intelligence chips, possibly extending beyond three months, could be caused by design flaws, according to a report by tech-focused publication The Information. This delay could significantly impact major clients like Meta, Google, and Microsoft, who have collectively placed orders worth tens of billions of dollars for these chips. The report, which cited individuals involved in the production of chip and server hardware for Nvidia, highlighted the potential repercussions.

Nvidia had unveiled the Blackwell chip series in March, which is a successor to the Grace Hopper Superchip. These chips are designed to enhance generative AI applications.

Nvidia's response to the report was clear: "As we've stated before, Hopper demand is very strong, broad Blackwell sampling has started, and production is on track to ramp in the second half," an Nvidia spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

Requests for comments from Meta, Google, and Microsoft were not immediately answered.

According to The Information, Nvidia recently informed Microsoft and another major cloud service provider about the delay in the production of its most advanced AI chip within the Blackwell series. This information was shared by a Microsoft employee and another individual familiar with the matter.
